Astraware Chuzzle Reviewed at Solsie.com

Frequent readers of JAMM probably recognize the name SPMWinkel.  Although he does not write for us, he probably spends as much time here as anyone (including the staff).  He is a frequent reader and commenter, and has won more contests I can mention (including the coveted Proporta Commenter of the Month Contest).

One thing many of you may not realize is that SPMWinkel also occasionally writes reviews for our friend, Solsie.  Today, he posted a review of Astraware Chuzzle.  I love Astraware and have reviewed many of their games.  Chuzzle had been on my list, but kept getting moved away from the top for other priorities.

In his review, SPMWinkel corrects a common misconception that Chuzzle is just another version of the popular Astraware game, Bejeweled.  He states:

I have to admit that I completely misjudged this game at first. Comparing this game to Bejeweled the way to align Chuzzles is totally original, and you also you don’t need to group Chuzzles in a straight line but they can be all kinds of shapes (as long as three or more are connected). And with 5 game modes to master and 26 trophies to earn, there is an incredible amount of goals to reach without losing interest in the game. I’m even willing to say that with the Trophy room, this game has an element that makes me doubt if Bejeweled 2 is still to be my favourite Astraware game, or if Chuzzle will take it’s place.

Thanks for the link! :)

I also got Hammer Heads this week but I think this one keeps you busy longer. More game modes, so more goals to reach!

“One thing many of you may not realize is that SPMWinkel also occasionally writes”….

For a minute there I thought you were going to tell us that he also writes applications and was the coder behind Chuzzle.

Nice review.

No. As far as I know, SPM is not a coder, although I do hear he makes some pretty mean skins. :)

Hehe I wish… Would be pretty cool if I could code something like Chuzzle. In fact, I don’t code at all!

As for the skins, they were only based on two colors, that’s all I can handle. Pixles and Alpha channels are hard enough already, making it colourful too is too much for me. ;)

I’m just a Law student who enjoys his PPC, there’s nothing professional involved. :P

Ha! You know, I still remember the day I figured out that my brother was a better programmer than I was (he now works for Microsoft). UNtil then, I totally outshined him on the TRS-80 (am I dating myself yet). Anyway, he made a program that turned keystrokes into colored blocks on the screen. I never did figure out how he did that. And so, I became a writer and not a computer programmer.

SPM, don’t sell yourself short. Your skins have been very good. You should keep doing that.

Hehe thanks :) It does take quite some time though, I’m really not very familiar with advanced graphic software such as PaintShopPro 7 which I use, so a lot of time goes in figuring that out. But who knows! ;)

I’ll make a recommendation for you SPM, check out Paint.NET. I find it far friendlier and stabler than PaintShop and you can’t beat the price.
