Windows Mobile Team Blog : Why did we remove Bluetooth DUN?
I’ve seen all the complaints… honestly I’ve not gotten on the whole Bluetooth bandwagon so no complaints from me, but I think I understand the problem. Well it looks like Microsoft understands as well.
The first half the article is a good overview of ICS (Internet Sharing) included with WM5 AKU3 … which by the way I’ve used recently and it rocks … but the second half is where the meat of the article is. WARNING: There’s a good chance you won’t know if you should be angry or happy with Microsoft by the end of it
Actually, Microsoft did not remove Bluetooth DUN completely. We still ship this technology to our OEMs. It is included in an optional package that OEMs and operators can decide to ship on a per device basis. Internet Sharing is also in an optional package. We did change one thing though. Internet Sharing is included by default and Bluetooth DUN no longer is.
Bluetooth DUN is a legacy technology that is likely to disappear over time…. blah blah blah…. (NO SH!!T – especially when you kill device support for it)
Anyway, based on continued feedback from the community, we have changed our minds! We will bring Bluetooth DUN back by default in a future WM6 AKU release. Keep in mind that OEMs and operators still have the final say whether DUN will end up on a specific device.
Here’s my problem. What about the poor folks who are stuck with WM5 AKU3 and WON’T GET the WM6 AKU? Are these folks still screwed? Any work arounds?

No workarouds so far, as I’ve also pointed out in my AKU3 Dial-up Networking Bible ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=1415&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ). The XDA-Dev folks have been working on the issue – so far, without any success.
