Sharp’s New High-Contrast Handset LCD

Sharp’s new QVGA LCD’s sound simply amazing. There are so many devices now that use mini LCDs – from mobile phones, cameras, PDAs, to even some watches. Looking forward to the Fall of 2007 to see some news about some of the sample shipments of the new LCDs.

Sharp claims it develops highest-contrast handset LCD

From the press release at  Digitimes:

Sharp has developed a new 2.2-inch, 240×320 (QVGA) LCD for mobile equipment such as mobile phones. The new LCD features a contrast ratio of 2,000:1, a viewing angle of 176-degrees, and a response time of 8ms, the company said.

By fusing proprietary, high-resolution liquid-crystal-system technology with high-quality display technology cultivated through the development of Aquas LCD TVs, Sharp has developed a new LCD for mobile equipment that boasts the industry’s highest contrast ratio, a wide viewing angle that is top class in the industry, and image quality nearly as high as that of LCD TVs, claimed Sharp. The new LCD offers clearer, more colorful images than conventional mobile equipment, added the company.

Sharp is scheduled to make a sample shipment of the new LCDs for One-Seg-compatible mobile phones, in fall 2007. Sharp will then use the new LCDs to expand its lineup of mobile phones and to further develop the application of these new LCDs in digital still cameras (DSCs).
