Dell Smartphone Coming 4th Quarter

Quanta Computer is taking over where HTC left off.  You may remember that HTC used to be satisfied making handhelds for other companies including Dell, but decided they wanted to be in the spotlight, so they started marketing their own brand.  The problem with this is, companies like Dell and HP don’t want to buy from their competitors, so they’re looking for new sources.  Apparantly, Quanta is now making smartphones for Dell.

Recently, I asked if Dell is buying Palm?  The idea was right, but the actual company was wrong.  But Quanta said it would not comment on any issue involving individual clients.

Sources claim the new Dell PDA project, codenamed, "Fly", will use WM6 and support HSDPA.  It will feature a QWERTY keyboard as well.  This project is due out in the 4th quarter.  Quanta already makes notebooks for Dell and supplies handsets for HP, so they bring a wealth of experience to the table.  HTC gave up alot of wholesale business.

This explains why Dell hired Motorola’s former head of mobile devices unit, Ron Garriques, to run its consumer unit.
