RSS Reader Roundup @ Modern Nomads
This is an excellent (high-level) write-up on a bunch of different RSS readers. If you’re still in the market for an RSS reader, or you haven’t yet caught the RSS bug – I definitely recommend stopping by and checking this one out.
(via Pocket PC Thoughts)
The abundance of RSS readers has the benefit that there is a lot of choice. Unfortunatly, this also means that there are less well-designed applications. Fortunatly, there are also very good readers leading the pack.

Thanks for this link! I’m very interested in RSS readers for the PPC so I’ll truely enjoy this.

It’s an interest of mine too spmwinkel – I think we were both winners of the NewsBreak 1.2 licenses from this blog.
Personally, I’m torn between a dedicated app (like NewsBreak) and something that’s web-based. Google’s Reader app doesn’t have all the functionality I’d like, isn’t very fast, is not at all customizable…. and yet it’s usually my app of choice. Simply because when I sit down to my desktop I know that all of my feeds will be in the state I left them when I was mobile. Using NewsBreak and then sitting down to a different app leaves me having to “mark as read” feeds/entries I’ve already read etc. It’s also a pain if you’ve marked something to come back to and then can’t find it because you were using a dift app.
Given the choice, I’d have NewsBreak on my WM5 device and a local installation too. The ideal would be if they could sync with each other via a (paid) web service.
You’re probably thinking I’m an obvious candidate for NewsGator. The trouble with that is the enormous cost: $45 for the WM5 app bundled with the WinXP app. It doesn’t sound huge unless you compare it with Google Reader which is free.
Oh well, maybe one day NewsGator will donate five licenses to JAMM for a giveaway!

I agree, I use the builtin RSS reader from IE 7 and I often find myself going through several feeds twice (PC and PPC). I hope Iliumsoft soon does what they also did with ListPro and eWallet: give NewsBreak a desktop version to prevent this.
But since v. 2 just came out, I don’t think that they’ll do that soon. :/

Yeah, I love NewsBreak on my mobile device (version 2.0 is fantastic), but I typically use Google Reader for the simple reason that I can access it from multiple locations and computers.
I agree with Melvynadam, though. Google Reader could use some work on the UI.
And it is terribly slow.
