Recording Studio to Go!
"Mic in, route to tape, listen back from tape." This is the mantra of my audio engineering classes in which I get to learn the day to day operations of a recording studio. Things just got a whole lot better as I get more choice on where to record. With SoundGate, a tablet PC designed for musicians and audio engineers with pre-loaded tools of the trade to record, transcribe, and prompt music as well as handle lyrics and music learning, I can do my job anywhere! This handy dandy tablet PC also comes EQ controls. Of course, what would you do without I/O ports? The SoundGate boasts a headphone jack, RCA, USB, XLR, 6.3 mm audio jacks. Wow! A built in XLR – I can plug in a quality microphone (no, not those lousy computer ones) such the Rhode K2 or Shure SM58 straight in without the need for additional adaptors. Add ProTools with that PC and I’m prepped and primed for the creation of jingles (radio advertisements), voice overs, and other recording work while enjoying the workspace that the SoundGate’s 10" touchscreen LCD provides as well as it’s flip out full size QWERTY keyboard.

Optionally, the SoundGate also has a music stand which has an inbuilt web camera which is perfect for those live gigs. Providing touch-free operation and a helium display which offers interactivity with other musicians running a SoundGate, this sounds just like that dream gadget that sure to set your crew to a different dimension.
Unfortunately, you can’t get one just yet. Cool as it is, its still in its design stages. Check the video of the SoundGate here and keep an eye out for more news to come about this promising tablet PC.
