Get The Most Out of Cingular – Tips From a Rep

Source: The Consumerist (spotted via a post at CrunchGear)

The Consumerist has a very cool article up called ’7 Confessions of a Cingular Sales Rep’ – with some handy-looking tips on how to get the most out of your dealings with Cingular.

Here’s just one example:

Avoid contract extensions by changing your rate plan at a store. “If you want to change your rate plan, do it in a retail store instead of on-line or over the phone. Officially after 1/2 of your contract is over a rate plan change results in a contract extension, but I’ve never once seen that rule enforced in the store.”

If you’re with Cingular, this seems well worth a good once-over. See the full article HERE

I like those people who do things like this!
In the Netherlands we have a workaround to have unlimited GPRS with Orange for 6 euros (which isn’t that big deal but otherwise you only get 25 MB!) and this was also confirmed by an official, who said that as long as it doesn’t cost them TOO much, they’re not fixing this ‘leak’.

Call me selfish … but when people disclose this stuff on the Internet it bugs me. These little loopholes are great, but Cingular is going to fix the problems when everybody and there grandma begins to exploit it.

Sort of like a good server exploit – why would you tell everyone and have Microsft patch it? Keep it there so you can use it when you need to.

I appreciate the willingness to assist others in getting things cheap – I just don’t know if telling a million plus people is the best way to make sure we continue to get it cheap.
