Straight From Star Trek To Your Home, 22Moo Offers A Myriad Of New Video Eyewear Options.

One of the coolest, in my opinion, developments in mobile devices lately has been the advent of video eyewear.  These are radical devices that put video screens in glasses to simulate your own private 80 inch screen.  Just slip the glasses on, plug it into your video device (iPod, Zune, Pocket PC, even a portable DVD player) and let ‘er rip as the  80 inch screen materializes right before your eyes.  Of course, I would caution that you not attempt to walk while watching a movie.

Now, 22Moo is offering 11 new models of video eyewear, to further their effort of becoming the world’s most recognized and best known distributor and online reseller of video eyewear, glasses, goggles, head mounted and wearable displays.  Among the new offerings are:

  • The VG240, which utilizes two CyberDisplay 230K microdisplays that simulate a 50″ virtual screen at 1M, has a very slim size and is the lightest (only 1.6 oz) on the market.
  • The VG910, which is based on the best selling and very popular VG-SD. However, it now comes with an improved display of 922k Pixels (640 x 480 @ 24bit color).
  • The VG920, which is a VGA video eyewear using Kopin’s BDM-922K to simulate a 80″ virtual screen at 1M. This supports a standard AV interface and can connect directly to the iPod Video and Zune players.
  • The VG920D, which features a 3D viewing feature, and PC interface.  It needs no battery box since it takes power directly from USB port and video from RGB port of a PC.
  • The PlayMate Mini Media Center (shown at right) allows you  to watch movies or photos on a large 35″ Screen from 2M away on a device that weighs only 120 g / 4.2 ounces.  In addition to movies and photos, it will also support music and games.
  • The VG-100K must be the world’s first video glasses that doubles as sunglasses.  They feature LCOS technology and a WQVGA resolution.

For more information about the products, check out 22Moo’s website and read more about the products featured here, as well as their complete line of video eyewear.   You can also read the complete press release here.

22moo is definately real and so are their products. In fcat, I spoke with them yesterday, and I should have a review unit coming shortly. I am anxious to see how they work in real life. :)

Has Geordi La Forge in engineering heard about this?

Hey, molly. Good question. I actually have a theory that LaForge is the man behind the curtain in tehse things. I think he got sick of Data and Picard making fun of his goofy eyewear and set out to make us all look like him. :)

Way cool! Especially since some of the models support VGA out (in addition to TV out). So . . . those of us with Axim x51vs are in business.

According to the response I got, Argo PC, Argo Cinema and VG920D ALL support VGA input.

(The VG920D is USB powered–not for the Axim).
