Zune To Get New Firmware Update This Month

Via: The Zune Insider

According to The Zune Insider, we should be getting a firmware update for the Zune this month – with March 20 being the favorite possible date for now.

The Zune Insider is of course written by Cesar Menendez, who is on the MS Zune Team, so this should be very accurate information.

Amongst the changes that the new firmware should incorporate are:

  • We’re fixing the skipping problem that some users were experiencing – that is, content acquired from Zune Marketplace will no longer skip when played on the device.
  • Improved device and software reliability, when it comes to device detection, and improved sync’ing.
  • We’ve made some changes to the FM Tuner so it no longer drains the battery when in sleep mode.

So – that’s good that Microsoft is listening to users and Zune sites (on the skipping issue for instance which I think Jason Dunn at Zune Thoughts might have first noticed) and bringing some fixes.

But … that list of changes will still probably draw an almost zero excitement level from most Zune users (or at least those not affected by skipping or severe battery drain that is). What we all want to hear about is Podcasting elements and some more unlocking of the WiFi capability before somebody else does it better!  Is that right?  Any Zuners / Zuneys out there have other things at the top of your wish list?
