WM Experts Review Jawbone BT Headset

Posted by: Steve Laser on Feb 28 2007 - 2,090 views

The Aliph Jawbone Headset features noise cancellation, can crank pretty darn loud, and is a "thing of beauty" according to the reviewer.  The review is beautifully done, features tons of pictures and a video.  They gave this headset very high marks, so if you’re in the market, check this out.

Gigabyte U60 UMPC

Posted by: Steve Laser on Feb 28 2007 - 1,466 views

This item, according to MobilitySite, will be announced at CeBit 2007:

"Called Gigabyte U60 this UMPC will have an interesting slid-out keyboard and will be based on Via C7-M mobile processor.  Gigabyte U60 UMPC will also come with 6.5″ (800×600) screen, 1.8″ 20 and 30 GB HDD, Wi-Fi b/g, 2 USB ports and SD/MMC memory card reader."

It’s nice to see these wonderful units catching on.  The first gen of UMPCs were more of a curiousity, but now they are becoming more mature.

New Linux Smartphone Looks Promising

Posted by: PatrickJ on Feb 28 2007 - 717 views

Source: Pocketables.net

I don’t care much for the design and the spelling of its name makes me cringe, but the upcoming Phreedom phone by Malaysian company GUPP Technologies is still worth some serious consideration.

This is the Gupp Phreedom Mobile Linux based phone.

I think I’d have to agree with Jenn K. Lee on the looks and naming awkwardness - but also on the fact that this phone looks promising nonetheless.

The spec for this device has got some real strong points - here’s part of the Pocketables description:

Mobile Linux 2.6 kernel, 5-hour VoWiFi (voice over wi-fi) talk time, “double tri-band” GSM/GPRS backup connectivity, 312MHz PXA270 processor, 320MB flash and SDRAM, and 802.11b/g radio with support for 802.11i, WEP, and WPA.

Nice to see some news on a good Mobile Linux based device.  For more details, check out the Pocketables post HERE

Hurrah - today we are running our first little giveaway contest at our new sister site, The Small Picture.

And we’ve got two Joost Beta invites to giveaway.

So what is Joost, some of you may be asking - here’s a few details:

  • It’s been developed by the guys who brought us Skype and Kazaa
  • "Quite simply, Joost turns your PC into an instant, on-demand TV."
  • "TV runs instantly, full screen and at high quality - there’s no lag from activating the TV software to getting something to watch."
  • "So right away, this is YouTube done properly. The chat widget takes us into familiar Interactive TV territory -you can rate clips, chat with friends, and so on."
  • "A menu allows users to switch channels with a click of a link. Users will also have TiVo-like control of the content and access to any show offered regardless of time of day. They can also can skip ahead or backward within a show."

Rain Effect: Opening the FloodGates to Mobile PDF Creation with FluidPDF!

Posted by: tjchan on Feb 28 2007 - 1,082 views

Since 1993, Adobe’s Acrobat PDF format has grown to become the de facto standard for the distribution of electronic documents whether it be for archival purposes or for the mobility of documents. As the file format gained popularity, Adobe made the PDF an open standard which allows not just Adobe but everyone to use and implement the file format. It used to be that you would have to return home or to the office with mobile device notes and slides and sync to the desktop and then use a PDF creation tool to create full fledged PDFs, but not anymore!

Rain Effect is proud to present, FluidPDF, the first total PDF solution for the Pocket PC and SmartPhone!
