Google Maps Add Real Time Traffic Data
Posted by: Steve Laser on Feb 28 2007
Google has added real-time traffic data for several major cities to its mapping service, the company said Wednesday.
Google has kicked up the service, offering traffic info integrated with Google maps in more than 30 cities including San Francisco, Dallas, New York and my city, Chicago, home of Da Bears.
According to Google product manager Carl Sjogreen, the data comes from many sources, including road sensors, car and taxi fleets. As such, there is not always enough data to report road conditions. Currently Google only provides data for major highways with an eye for eventual expansion.
