As some of you may have noticed, we are at it again – making changes to the JAMM Forums. And when I say we, I really mean I – so you can focus your blame for this messing around straight in on me, thanks very much.

My Top Excuse for messing with this area again = well, as some of you know, I have a little time on my hands. Have been at home recovering from a surgery and able to spend a good deal of time on site enhancements. So, yeah – me plus time on hands = scary.

The short summary of what has changed is: we’ve scrapped the SMF Forum engine, which had a lot of nice bells & whistles, but did not integrate nicely or tightly with the main site (probably due to my poor efforts, not any lack of quality of the SMF software). We have switched to the new Simple Forum engine. We have not been able to import posts etc. from the old to the new.

Here’s my reasoning as to why the new Forums will hopefully work out better for all of us:

• They are much more nicely linked to the main site. When you login to the main site, the forums should recognize you.
• Navigation is now much easier also – see the Nav link for the forums across the top header bar – and getting straight back to the main site from the forums is simple as well.
• Although the new forums currently are less ‘pretty’ and have far less features, they are being developed very actively and enthusiastically – so I believe the feature set will grow nicely and quickly.

Try Them Out, Tell Us What You’d Like To See

When you have time, try out the new forums, see what you think, and tell us your wish list for features you’d like to see. There is a ‘Site Suggestions’ forum where you can do this, and tell us generally how we can make the site better for you – which is always our ultimate goal!
