Webaroo Sponsors Contest

Webaroo – www.Webaroo.com – is sponsoring a new contest.  You may know them for offering a very cool "web to go" free product that allows you to instantly search web pages and view web sites anytime, without an internet connection, on your handhelds and desktops.

They are offering three 512mb USB keys.  How do you win them.  Simple!  Just go to their web site and post a comment here about their service, offerings or company.  Any fact will do.  The contest ends in three days, wherein I will randomly pick 3 winners.

Good luck everybody!

Contest ends Sunday, 2/18/07 at 6pm Central Time.

Hum… interesting product… I’m using a lot my x51v in subway and bus so offline content is important for me.

So I understand Webaroo is working great with news site but How webaroo is dealing with dynamic and flash enabled websites?

Thanks!

That kangaroo has big feet!
(Take a look, it’s a funny kangaroo :P )

Hehe it would be so funny if that kangaroo would win me a USB key. Never heard of Webaroo before though, so this contest is good advertising!

Where do you post the comment exactly?

Sounds a little like Avantgo in that you can have it snag content you’re interested in: “Customizable: Consumers select web content to take with them. Later this year, Webaroo
will begin personalizing content to adapt to anonymous users’ interests—offering more
results on highly-searched topics.” I’ll be interested in seeing the file size as well. If it *works* it will be pretty cool!

Looks like an interesting idea. I’m on my way to Holland tonight for a business trip and just downloaded a few packs to try out on my HTC Wizard.

Random fact:
“Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt were recently voted 2nd in The Top Ten Most Stylish Celebrity Parents in Showbiz poll.”

The previous comment was my entry into the contest. Having now tried the app I’ve had some pretty negative experiences with it.
Firstly the application rudely took up 2.6MB of my precious internal storage. Standard practice for PPC apps is that they ask during installation whether to install to internal storage or a storage card. Webaroo decided I wanted the app on my internal memory.
Well if I’m that unhappy I can just uninstall it, right? Wrong. Webaroo have unforgivably not provided an uninstall option and add no line to the “remove programs” list. In other words, all changes have to be manually removed.
You’re probably thinking, “I’m techie enough to just go to program files and delete the subdirectory”. You’ll get tripped up by yet another sign of Webaroo arrogance: they’ve installed their app in the shortcut bar (which I had deliberately turned off on my device) and some of the files can’t be deleted without exiting the always running application.
This attitude of the developers reminded me of all those Windows programmers who decide that their application desperately needs to be in my Explorer context menu for every file. That arrogance annoys me and so did Webaroo by implying that their app is so important that (a) it belongs on my internal storage and I’d be mad to think otherwise, and (b) there’s no need to include an uninstall – who would want to uninstall this?

YMMV but I won’t be installing this again unless they clean up their act. A 512MB disk-on-key is always welcome though ;)
