Something for Everyone – From Cockney Translators to …

Here’s one of the things I have always most loved about Windows Mobile (and all its previous names / incarnations) – the huge variety and breadth of applications available for it, covering even the most obscure of subjects.

As I was browsing through news feeds and so on this morning, for some reason I just got caught up looking at two new apps that caught my eye:

  • Cockney Translator – described as: Visitors to London (or viewers of EastEnders) may find some of the language incomprehensible. That”s because they are speaking in rhyming slang. This program will decipher for you. Details at: http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?…
  • Companion Planting – described as: Plants and vegetables may not do as well as they should, & it may be because of their neighbouring plants. This will tell you which are the best companions and which are the worst. Details at: http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?…

Now these two are not amazingly noteworthy mind you – they just happened to be the ones that caught my eye today and remind me of this point which strikes me nearly every day as I come across new (or new to me anyway) programs across new subject areas.

Although I have to admit, having spent many years in London I’d love to see whether the translator app is up to much, or a load of bollocks.

What are some of your favorite examples of lovely little mobile apps for all sorts of specialist purposes???
