What is so significant about today?  Well, I’ll admit, in 1989 I never dreamed that I could have a computer, let alone one the size of a pda, in my car, tracking satellites no less, and speaking to me with driving directions!  But on this day 18 years ago, the first of 24 satellites that will comprise the global positioning system was placed into orbit.
