Quite understandable why MS has to release a patch for DST but I can not say the same for the Palm.
What I find most interesting about the DST patches and updates is that it seems that what seemingly is quite easy to for a Palm OS device has been caused such a backlash and outroar from a lot of Palm newbies, especially in the official Palm forum.
You see, for Palm OS device, making the change for a new DST zone is as simple as going into the Preferences and manually change it. Very simple and for a long time, Palm did not release a patch (and in my view, they really did not need to either). The info on the manual change has been posted at a lot of different Palm forums and yet, many Palm newbies kept complaining why Palm has not released a patch when everyone else has. Duh! This is where pure laziness sets in. It is not that hard to manaully change it in the Palm device and yet people want a patch. Eventually Palm relented and released one.
This reminds me of all those stupid class action lawsuits regarding the battery and loss of data. This could have been prevented simply by backing up the data before removing and changing the battery. Common sense. Goes to show you that there is a lot of lazy people who want something for nothing and will do so. And of course, unscrupulous lawyers who will look for stupid opportunities to slap a class action lawsuit. How much did each individual in the class action suit get in the end? Probably pennies. And how much did the lawyers? Hmm.
I am off my soapbox.
