Upcoming Cingular 8525 Update – Push-To-Talk & Lots More

The upcoming ROM update for the Cingular 8525 (HTC Hermes) will apparently include several major new changes and features – like support for the Push-To-Talk feature, Blackberry Connect, and Cingular Video.

Oh, and apparently it’ll carry an AT&T splashscreen instead of Cingular.

No release dates as yet, but if you’re brave you can check out THIS thread over at xda-developers.com and give the unofficial version a crack …

I’ve got the new ROM on my 8525.. everything listed above is on it except the Cingular Video link.. You have to go to the cingular video website in order to view CV, but it is there and ready to use.. also, the splash screen is AT&T and has a cool little cingular raising the bar intro as well. The “U” that indicates 3G service is now changed to “3G”. PTT works just like the blackberry pearl. Overall, a great ROM to use but I’m still awaiting WM6 for my 8525 ;)

MitchB – very cool stuff. ROM sounds nice. You and me both – waiting for some WM 6 goodness from Cingular.

All is great with the 8525 BUT the button that allowed to take quick Voice Memos (“Voice Recorder”-Push and Hold Button) no longer works. It can not be mapped as the “Voice Recorder” does not show up as one of the Option. This function has been there on all the previous Pocket PCs. Hope that someone will fix this.If anyone knows the solution please post it on xda-developers.com website.
