MyVu Personal Media Viewer. Chapter One: The Arrival
Posted by: dgoldring on Feb 09 2007Slightly before the holidays, we here at JAMM discovered an extremely cool looking new device, the MyVu Personal Media Viewer. I wrote to MyVu asking for one to review, and was fortunate enough to receive one in the mail a few days ago. I have to say, this is one cool device. I am going to start off with this post, primarily showing some photos so you can all see what we are talking about.
Essentially, the MyVu is a set of goggles with earbud headphones (and yes, that is yours truly modeling them for you). The unit I received attaches to a video iPod, however, there is another version which can attach to any mobile device (including Pocket PC and laptops).
So, follow the break to take a closer look.
The entire unit, along with all of the necessary accoutrements comes in a nice clamshell hard case. This makes it a little bulky, but is great for avoiding damage while carrying it around.
Here is a closer look at the goggles. They make you look a lot like LaForge from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Essentially, each eyepiece consists of a polarized window and a screen. This means you view the screen with both eyes, and you can also see beyond the screen with either eye. Nonetheless, I would not recommend using this while walking down the street.
The MyVu also comes with a clip which attaches to your shirt or collar. This clip allows you to control the video as you watch it. Fast Forward, Rewind, Play, Pause, even control the volume, all from this unit which is always nearby.
Finally, a shot of everything that comes with the box. In addition to what I have already shown you, it also comes with a case which slips around and connects to your iPod. It also comes with some extra pieces such as nose clips and earbuds. Finally, there is both a wall plug and car charger so you will always have a full battery.
Keep watching JAMM for my full review of the MyVu Personal Media Viewer coming soon.

Looking forward to your full review! This looks really cool…the question on my mind still is: How well does this work? Will it give you eyestrain more easily than sitting behind a monitor for 8 hours a day? Again, looking forward to it!
You look like a Jordie LaForge.
I’m looking forward to seeing them in action - keep us updated!
tjchan, I have exactly the same questions. Hopefully, all will be answered soon.
Brandon, that is exactly what my wife said when she took those pictures.
Jordie LaForge, indeed.

I own the higher end, Made for iPod setup.
Totally worth it.
If you watch any movies on your iPod at all these are for you.
Well designed, extra battery (rechargable) setup or just use your iPod.
The picture is clear and easy to see. I don’t need glasses for distance but I do need reading glasses. The Myvu works fine without my reading glasses, it appears as a 30 inch TV about a meter in front of the viewer. The sound is very good and I have used a pillow on my side and still used the screen with no problem with fit.
I have been looking for something like these for a while. They are worth the money but if you need to send them back for repair make sure you keep on the customer service folks, they seem a bit slow at that part (had sent original pair back for a faded screen, after 2 months a supervisor finally offered me either a refund or the new Made for iPod set, I am real glad I went with the new set!)
Pirate, Glad to hear your comments. I have the made for iPod set, and there should be an iPod on the way so I can do a more thorough review.
I also have the high end VGA version coming from 22Moo, so it willbe interesting to see how the two compare.

Dorkalicious!
