It’s Official: Windows Vista and iPod Do Not Speak the Same Language

Who really controls the operating system market? From the looks of it, companies such as Apple may actually have a larger say. According to HardOCP, iTunes 7.0.2 is not compatible with Vista and Apple recommends users to hold off from upgrading for at least a few weeks until Apple can come up with a fix for the problem. There is an iTunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0 that solves some problems however according to Apple, the following bugs are still in the system which can still result in a corruption of your iPod.

So what if big name manufacturers decided NOT to write programs that are “Vista compliant”? After reading Brandon’s article about “Vista + Palm = broken“, I was thinking what would consumers choose if they had to choose between there iPods and Palm PDAs or Vista? I know what I’d choose – the iPod and the Palm any day!

Why does Microsoft have to go breaking everything and create more work for everyone? Even Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, Microsoft’s latest and greatest programming tools are broken and do not function properly under Vista according to CRN and plenty of bugs still remain despite the release of Service Pack 1 for Visual Studio 2005.

On top of the software incompatibilities, Neowin.net reports that those that are participating in the Vista Family Discount Program get product keys that DO NOT work. Microsoft has for the time being removed the order page from their site.

To make matters even worse for Microsoft is a new security exploit that involves voice recognition. According to the BBC, malicious audio files of voice commands can send your computer doing all sorts of things including deleting files and emptying the recycling bin.

To the early adopters of Vista, I salute you for discovering all the bugs and bearing it. I do not have the guts to use an operating system so early in its lifespan and will be waiting for all the troubled waters to come to a peaceful calm before trying to get onboard with Vista.
