Google Maps Mobile…Never Get Lost Again

Does this ever happen to you?  It is dark…and raining.  You are driving along an empty road listening to Led Zeppelin on the radio (is anyone else excited by the fact that Led Zeppelin announced a reunion tour today??).  Suddenly, a screeching noise erupts from the passenger seat.  Snapping out of your intense driving concentration, you realize she is yelling, "you were supposed to take that exit."  All of a sudden, you are miles past your turn, no map, no directions, and no clue.  Now what?

Now, like Mighty Mouse, Google Maps is here to save the day.  Until now, Google Maps was available only for desktop computers.  Not much good when you are on the road.  This week, however, Google (makers of just about everything) announced the release of Google Maps Mobile, a mobile device application that can access, utilize, and download all of Google Maps’ powerful features, including:

  • Real-time traffic — See where the congestion is, and estimate delays in over 30 major US metropolitan areas.
  • Detailed directions — Whether you plan to walk or drive, your route is displayed on the map itself, together with step-by-step directions.
  • Integrated search results — Local business locations and contact information appear all in one place, integrated on your map.
  • Easily movable maps — Interactive maps let you zoom in or out, and move in all directions so you can orient yourself visually.
  • Satellite imagery — Get a bird’s eye view of your desired location.

For more information, and to download, visit the Google Maps website.  To access and download  Google Maps on the go, just click the link from your mobile device.  And now, you may return to your Led Zeppelin on the radio, knowing full well that, despite what your wife may say, you are most certainly not lost thanks to Google Maps (oh yeah, and besides, everyone knows "big legged women ain’t got no soul").
