V12 Design creates Dual-touchscreen laptop.
Posted by: PocketBrain on Feb 01 2007Now why didn’t I think of this? Oh yeah, I did!
V12 Design has come up with a novel idea: a laptop without a keyboard. Or, if you prefer, a laptop with an adaptable input panel. The input panel shown is just your basic laptop keyboard with touchpad, but as you can see, the lower half of this innovative laptop has a touchscreen.
A few years ago, I imagined a laptop with a touchscreen as a lower input panel; the keyboard would be drag-and-drop reconfigurable, or simply selected from a list (qwerty, azerty, dvorak, fitaly, etc) of pre-configured keyboards.
V12 adds a lot to my original vision. With the input panel as a touchscreen, the variety of input options is limited only by the space available and your imagination. It could be a drawing and drafting pad, a keyboard, just a white board, whatever you need. And, as a display, you could also use both halves to view web pages, electronic books, and newspapers. Perhaps even games! This machine would be yours to mould to your liking.
Man, I should have patented that idea!
V12 Design. Careful, it’s all flash. Check out their other designs, too, they make some purrrty stuff.

Is nobody else as excited about this as I am?
Yesss….
Except I envision it as a windows mobile device.
Most people prefer the feel of a keyboard to a screen keyboard. Laptop people in general want the most intuitive designs. (My opinion)
However, windows mobile people are often willing to trade away for . . . mobility. However, screen space is a big demand for us as long as mobility isn’t compromised and would be worth the trade off (I think).
I definitely do see a PDA version of this as being viable, similar to the Nintendo DS in size. It would be ideal for both screens to be touchscreens, though. And you could fold down the lower half (via slider or switchblade action) for “standard” PDA operation.
This concept already exists. In fact, I’m using one right now! Check out http://www.estari.com
ssamra - that does look very cool. But …. a base price of over $4,000 does not sound like a mobile or UMPC competitor to me …
The computer is initially being targeted to gov’t, military and education institutes. People with big budgets for these types of devices. Eventually, the price will come done to a more reasonable level. Think of the price of the first pc’s.
