And Now For Something Completely Different…
I am just going to come right out and admit that this is not really a mobile device…or at least that calling it a mobile device is going to be a huge stretch. Almost as big a stretch as calling a Macintosh a computer (sorry, I could not resist that one).
We all have our hobbies that seem to creep onto the site from time to time. You may have noticed Patrick’s abundance of posts about miniature remote controlled helicopters a while back. Well, for me, it is universal remote controls. I currently use a Sony Remote Commander, which is good, but getting dated, and is in need of a replacement. The top of the heap, so to speak, as far as consumer remote controls, is the Logitech Harmony. I have been eyeballing this one for some time. Unfortunately, my wallet keeps eyeballing me back.
Recently, Logitech unveiled their new Harmony 1000 Advanced Remote Control and, as usual, The Boy Genius Report has one of the first units (how does he do it?). Unlike the previous Harmony incarnations, this one is larger and square shaped. It does not look like a standard remote control. Which is good, because this remote is anything but standard.
The Boy Genius seemed to like this remote control a lot, and posted a full pictorial display on his site.
The Logitech Harmony 1000 Advanced Remote Control retails for $499.99. For that much money, though, here is what you get:
- One-touch activity controls
- 3.5" touch screen
- Rechargeable battery
- Online setup for over 175,000 devices (plus macros)
- Help button troubleshoots your A/V system with you
For more information, check out the Logitech web site.

Only $500 beans? I’m in! My wife won’t mind at all. As long as we upgrade her engagement ring by a few carots!

Steve. You could sell you tv to buy her a new diamond while she sells her ring to buy you this remote.
Or maybe that has been done.
