Windows Mobile Device Center: The Future is Now?
In the future, mobile device users always imagined, no one will ever have to use ActiveSync again. Microsoft will give us a better way to load programs than the complicated and frustrating Active Sync interface.
Well, thanks to the Windows Mobile Device Center (which is included as part of the new Windows Vista Operating System, which ships today), the future has finally arrived. No, there are no flying cars that fold up into a briefcase, or housecleaning robots, or…well, OK so the future is not exactly The Jetson’s.
Many Windows Mobile users, however, have been anxiously waiting for Windows Mobile Device Center almost as much as those flying cars, though, any many are asking whether this upgrade will solve all of the problems experienced with ActiveSync. Will Windows Vista cure all of your computer woes? I am not even going to try to answer that question. I will tell you, however, that Arne Hess over at the::unwired recently posted a thorough review of the new Windows Mobile Device Center.
Arne concludes, "The new Windows Mobile Device Center is definitely an improvement over the current Microsoft ActiveSync which stayed more or less unchanged since the Pocket PC introduction back in 2000. The Windows Mobile Device Center offers many features, Windows Mobile users awaited for a long time, like automatic import of photos and the ability to open files straight from the mobile device without copying the files to the PC first. For power users, this is very handy."

ActiveStink by any other name is still ActiveStink. No matter how many pretty pictures you put on the background… broken is broken.
I can put Ferrari logos on my Acura … still doesn’t make it a Ferrari.
Of course I’ll find out for myself shortly when I drum up the courage to install Vista-cular on my laptop.

Wow! Brandon is in full-on RANT mode this morning.
I would just like to state that Brandon’s views are his own and do not necessarily represent those of anyone else here at JAMM.
Seriously, I am really looking forward to testing out Vista. I have heard that there are some pretty amazing features, including the Windows Mobile Device Center which is supposed to make syncing and information sharing considerably easier.

Heck, I put Yugo logos on my BMW to keep people from stealing it. So far it’s working.
And yes, I have to agree: “broke is broke” (which is what I keep telling my thick-skulled boss but he just doesn’t take the hint & give me that d*mn raise)! Grrr!
