MightySync 3
Posted by: Steve Laser on Jan 25 2007 - 866 viewsHow do you sync a file between your desktop and your pda? Active Sync makes you put files in your pda’s My
Documents folder, which means that the files take up valuable space in your device’s main memory, and if your device has a hard reset and you don’t have wm5, then you lose that data. It also means that you must put your desktop files in a place you may not want to put them. In fact, I keep my files on a server. And that means that Active Sync won’t sync the file. But MightySync 3 from MyDocsUnlimited will.
This software is simple to use and fairly intuitive. I downloaded the demo, which was actually MightySync 2, and used it for 15 days. It was fantastic. I have this huge Excel spreadsheet I use on my server, and I just started using Planmaker on my pda, a Dell Axim x50v. The spreadsheet is located on a server in our office and the in the My Documents folder of my pda, though I plan on moving it to my SD card soon. It syncs beautifully. And now that I bought the full version for $5.95, I received version 3, which is even better. Look how easy this is:
This is the main screen:

You add a "sync", then you name your sync:

Let’s call it Sync 2.
Then the explorer screen opens.

Here is where you match the files or folders that you want to sync.
Press Finish.
Now you can view your Syncs.

I have one called Part_Numbers, that’s my huge spreadsheet I was talking about. I had one called "Wallet" that I deleted.
The instructions and help are decent. You can see the setup help here.
Options
You have lots of options to configure with this program. It works aside from Active Sync, not instead of it, but too bad Active Sync is not designed more like MightySync. Here are some of the options:
-Sync automatically on connect
-Manually Sync
-Silent Sync (no messages pop up during Sync)
-If a file has been deleted or moved, do nothing, copy the existing file over, delete the existing file, or prompt me.
Where to Find it
You can find this software here. The trial period is 15 days. The trial is for MightySync 2, but you actually purchase MightySync 3. The price is $5.95 and it’s a great value.
