Sandisk Sansa Xpress: What the iPod Shuffle Aspires To Become.
I have a confession to make. I am an iPod owner. I never really meant for it to happen. I was given an iPod Shuffle a few months ago as a gift. To be honest though, a
fter several weeks of use, it has mostly sat on the corner of my shelf collecting dust. I found the Shuffle to be extremely awkward for me because it has no screen. I am the type of person who needs to see the artist and album information in order to identify a song. Without this information, I feel like I am missing something. So, I never got along terribly well with my iPod Shuffle, and quickly stopped using it.
Now, Sandisk has released the Sansa Xpress USB-stick player. This player is exactly what the iPod Shuffle should have been. It features:
- 1GB of memory
- a small screen
- playback controls
- 15-hour battery life
- microSD expansion
- Direct USB connector-No cable needed
- Digital FM tuner, with FM recording
- Supports MP3, WMA, Protected WMA, WAV, and Audible files
You get all of this, for only $59.99. If I had received the Sansa Xpress instead of my iPod Shuffle (also 1GB) then I probably would still be using it today.

Ahem …
While the tagline is quite close to what Giz…you know who said – there’s a something you forgot:
The Shuffle doesn’t aspire to be anything like this shape/form factor anymore. True the Shuffle (1st Gen) was quite close to this only without the screen, the new shuffle is in clip form. If anything I think this Sensa (don’t get me wrong is very cool) but it seems more like it is aspiring to be the best of the stick form mp3 players.

While I agree with you that this is probably the best of the stick type MP3 players….
The clip form iPod shuffle doesn’t do any more for me than the stick form did. This is a much better player than either the iPod 1 or iPod 2.
If this is not what the iPPod shuffle aspires to be, maybe it should…

Hey, they included both a screen and an FM tuner in something that small; You have to love that! Who cares to compare to Apple anything; they weren’t even the first to make an .mp3 player in that size (the new shuffle), and have never included an FM tuner in anything, the single most-used feature in my 512MB SanDisk DAP, which I’m listening to right now. It also has a readout, but is not as slim. What’s battery like in the Express?

The battery life in the Express is 15 hours, which I think is the longest battery life of all of these stick type MP3 players.
I also love the fact that you can select songs, it is not just random play like the Shuffle.
And you can’t beat the price!!
