Mini-Review SD and Memory Card Storage Options From Proporta
In a previous post, I reviewed the new SD Card with Built in USB from Proporta. Walking around with this new card, I felt like a girl who had recently gotten engaged. You know, the ones who contort their wrists until their arm looks like it is made of rubber, until you "spontaneously" notice the ring. That is how I felt with this card. I wanted everyone to spontaneously notice it and comment on how cool it is. But they can’t do that if it is locked away inside my Pocket PC. For that reason, Proporta also provided me with two alternatives, both of which allow me to flash my new card, and are also stylish on their own.
The SD/MMC Keyring is the perfect way to transport your new SD card in style. The keyring, which looks great holding my
keys, is made out of the same aircraft grade aluminum and leather as Proporta’s signature Alu-Leather Case. One one side is a window to the aluminum interior, in which the Proporta insignia has been etched. The reverse features a small pocket, in which an SD or MMC can be securely held and waved about until your friends spontaneously notice it…or, if they are like my friends, ask you if you are having a seizure. Either way, you have been given a golden opportunity to show off your new keyring and SD card. The keyring costs $3.95 at Proporta, but is free for a limited time with the purchase of the SD Card with Built-In USB.
The second option is the Aluminum Memory/SIM Card Holder, which can hold up to three memory cards. This case is also made out of the same high quality aircraft grade aluminum for which Proporta has become famous. One of the things I really appreciated about this case is that it holds the card with the conductors facing inward. Many memory card cases I have seen secure the card with the conductors facing out, which can lead to damage and failure of the card. This case’s slim proportions also mean that it is easy to slip into your pocket, briefcase, or bag, knowing that your memory is safe and secure. Well, at least the memory for your device is safe and secure. In fact, it is only slightly thicker than a credit card, which means you could even slip it into your wallet. The case costs $9.95.
I really enjoyed both of these options for securing my memory cards. The more devices I obtain and use regularly, the more memory cards I seem to have lying around. When I made the jump from CF to SD, I also found that the smaller cards are much easier to lose and damage than CF cards. So, I appreciate any option, such as these, which allows me to secure my memory cards without taking up a lot of space in my pocket or briefcase.
