Quick Tip – Getting Out of A Cellphone Contract
Well, not so much a tip – but an online resource that’s out there for you if you’re looking to ditch your cell contract – at Cellswapper.com.
I’d heard about this site before and always sort of forgotten to make a note of the name – spotted it mentioned again the other day on the Lifehacker site and thought I’d give us all a quick reminder that this site is out there for all of our ‘I Hate Verizon / Sprint / Cingular AT&T / T-Mobile And I’m Not Gonna Take It Anymore’ sort of needs.![]()
Or even just for all of us who end up lusting after some awesome new smartphone, but thinking it can’t be had because we’re tied to ABC carrier for the next 3 years and they don’t do that model.
The way it works seems pretty straightforward:
You pay a one-time fee to Cellswapper (9.95 to 14.95, depending on what level you choose), post your phone, and then you switch plans with someone else. Of course, there’s a lot of details that go along with all that, but overall, it looks to be a tremendously useful service for anyone who’s not happy with their current plan.
For all the details and to set yourself free from a contract you need out of, check it out at:

WOAH!! THIS IS AWESOME! I gotta go check it out. I’m stuck on Sprint right now and I want to go Cingular.

I’ve heard of this before. I may need to look into it so I can switch back to Sprint from Verizon. of course, from what I have seen, this is definately a grass is always greener type of thing.

Or – as Texas residents might appreciate – an ‘All of the grass has fire ants in it’ sort of situation …

Great find! I’m passing this info onto my parents. They’re stuck with Verizon and are looking for a way out. Poor, poor parents…

Interesting and obviously someone has capitalized on it. But, is it not simpler and cheaper to do it via many of the popular cellular forums like Howardforums? That happens daily in there and there’s usually lots of people willing to take over your contract if your contract is a good corporate one. Maybe I am missing something here.

You’re right May. You could do that. Think of this as a real estate agent for cell phone owners. You could do it all yourself, but this does all of the legwork and paperwork for you.
