Take This Steve, Lots of New Bluetooth Gadgets to Confuse Those Around You.

One of my favorite innovations in mobile devices has been Bluetooth technology.  I love being able to carry on a conversation without holding the phone to my ear.  I love being able to listen to music without untangling a wire that seems longer than my intestine.  I love being able to transfer files between my laptop and Pocket PC without wires.  But I am getting a little off topic.  Slashgear is reporting on some of the latest innovations and uses of Bluetooth technology.  I have to say, these headsets and headphones are amazing looking.  I had better start saving my money now.

The first new headset is offered by Jabra.  As Slashgear notes, the Jabra BT8010 headset has not one, but two earpieces connected by a thin wire.  I would rather see two ear clips without a wire connecting them, (like this one from Kleer).  Nonetheless, I am intrigued by the dual operation of this headset: one earpiece for phone calls, and a second to provide stereo music.  The second headset is removable when you are not listening to music.  According to the press release, this headset will also feature a built on phone book with caller ID.  I can already see Jabra taking some of my hard earned money over this one.

Additionally, Slashgear reported on a new headset being released by Joby, which they had the opportunity to check at out CES last week.  "Aimed at being a company of innovation, Joby has brought us the unique Gorillapod and is now announcing a line of Bluetooth headsets scheduled for release in Q2 of 2007."   Although it is expected to be ultra lightweight and features a unique adjustable earpiece that attaches via magnet, I though this headset was just ugly.  It looks too industrial for my taste.  Of course, one person’s ugly is another person’s lost treasure.  Despite its appearance, this headset does appear to be feature rich, so don’t just listen to my opinion, check it out for yourself.

Finally, for all of you real music enthusiasts, JBL brings you the Reference 610 Bluetooth headphones.  Although these headphones do not sync with your cellphone, they will control pretty much everything else you can throw at it.  They feature integrated controls on the earpiece to adjust volume, select tracks, and play/pause your music. It’s equipped with rechargeable batteries and a universal battery charger.

So, there you have it, an abundance of new innovation, all designed to confuse Steve in the frozen food aisle (if you have no idea what I am talking about, check out Steve’s excellent Bluetooth article.  Although the holidays are over now, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and what better way to stay in touch with your Valentine, than one of these new headsets (or use the JBL headphones to completely tune out all of the nagging).
