I have to give Apple their propers for the interface and intergrating a full Nano iPod into the iPhone but there are some inherent cons and drawbacks to the iPhone as well. It’s not all tripping through the daisies.

For me, a phone that’s being released 6 months from now needs to have 3G. Sorry, new phones with EDGE just ain’t cutting it, especialy since Apple so wrongly stated that their device is the most “advanced” internet phone on the market?!? *cough* Step away from the Apple flavored Kool Aid and smeel reality: there are faster, better internet browing experiences to be had currently. Sorry Apple but you missed the bus on this one.

Also, being forced to touch the screen just for simple tasks like answering or placing a phone call is so 1995. I don’t want to be forced to peck away at a screen when a simple press of a button would do… And has anyone but me asked the question: “Will I be able to use the device with gloves on or when it’s really cold outside??” I can’t be the only one that’s seen this little “oversight”…

No user replaceable battery? Here we go again… You better bring a charging cable/dock and have a power source available or you’re screwed. Once your iPhone battery dies you loose your phone, iPod and internet/email device all in one stroke! I don’t see people that travel a good deal being keen to ditch their devices for the iPhone simply because once the battery is drained, they’re screwed. Finding AC charge ports isn’t always easy…

No 3rd party support or software?!? WTH?!? I’m not even going to waste my time on this one. *rolls eyes*

Locked to Cingular for at least 2 years in the US?!? Great way to murder your sales in North America, Apple…

I could go on but I’m really tired. People need to step away from the Steve Jobs distortion field, take off their Apple-colored glasses and objectively look at the device for what it is and ISN’T. What it can and CAN’T do.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m an owner of a Mac and two iPods. No Apple hater here. I just call it like I see it and although it LOOKS beautiful, there are quite a few blatant “gotchas”.

Just fyi … you aren’t the only one asking about the gloves – Ellen at ilium said the same thing.

And it’s a great point.

I’ll get back to you on the other stuff – my kid is doing something stupid atm.
