If You Are In The Market For A New Phone…You Might Check These Out First.
Posted by: dgoldring on Dec 31 2006I’m one of those people who is always in the market for a new phone. I rarely ever buy one…but I am always in the market. I just like to see what new features are being advertised and touted as the next big thing. Well, here are a few tidbits from Samsung and Hitachi that are sure to bring a smile to the faces of anyone desperately searching for "the next big thing."
Samsung announced earlier this week that it is releasing the slimmest HSDPA slider phone (above, left).
The Ultra Edition 13.8 (Z720), which is currently available only in Europe, sports a slim 13.8mm profile. Powered by High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) for data transmission speeds at 1.8 Mbps it enables mobile users to access more files and provides greater fidelity for streaming video content.
Weighing in at only 80 grams, the Ultra-Edition 13.8 comes packed with extras, including:
- a 3 megapixel camera with auto focus,
- a 2.1” QVGA display,
- WAP 2.0 and HTML browsing capabilities,
- a second camera for video telephony
- a document viewer,
- voice memo and PIM features,
- microSD external memory support,
- Bluetooth ® and USB connectivity.
- support for Samsung’s newest uGo and uTrack interfaces, and
- Google™ mobile search and Gmail™(Google Mail)

Additionally, Tech-On reports that Hitachi recently started mass production of 800 x 480 2.9-inch LCD panels for use in mobile phones (above, right). The company claims that users will now be able to view full websites designed for desktop computers without side scrolling. The panel, which has a pixel count of up to five times that in a standard QVGA screen, employs the company’s proprietary liquid crystal technology called IPS that boasts wide viewing angle and high image quality.
