Jack’s Back
Posted by: PatrickJ on Nov 28 2006 - 815 viewsIf you’re like me, your ability to experience mobility has been severely impaired over the last few days. Something important and entertaining has been missing.
Jack Cook’s Experience Mobility site was recently experiencing some major issues, and was not getting updated.
Happily, as of today, Experience Mobility is back and it’s re-designed and has changed to a new blogging platform. And it looks great!
So … New Look, New Platform, but the same great mix of all sorts of cool mobile news and excellent, thorough mobile reviews that we’ve come to expect and rely on from Jack.

PTTFix - Makes the Push-to-Talk Button Usable on the Cingular 8525
Posted by: PatrickJ on Nov 28 2006 - 11,108 views"This little app replaces the Cingular PTT service and adds customizable launch capabilities back to that useless PTT button on your Cingular ROM equipped Hermes. This patch initially maps the PTT button to the built in Voice Dialer, but you can re-map the push as well as the hold functions to the application of your choice."
Thanks to MVT at Treo Central forums for providing the link to this, and to Sleuth255 at the xda-developers forum for providing this very handy little fix for the (currently) purposeless Push-to-Talk button on the Cingular 8525.
I’ve tried this out and it does what is says - works like a charm. Lets you map applications to that button - shows it as Button 5, and lets you map an app to a press of that button, and (if desired) a second app to a press and hold on the button.
It’s simple to install - via a .cab file, and should be installed to the device, not a storage card!
As always, very cool stuff from the xda-developers forum. For all the information and download please visit:

We all know by now that mobile phone technology is pretty amazing. But shopping for it isn’t. At Best Buy Mobile, we think there’s a better way
Best Buy has announced the opening of a series of dedicated Best Buy Mobile stores in New York city, promising:
- A better choice of phones & networks
- Impartial, informed advice
- Straightforward pricing
- Service & support for the life of your phone
Presumably these are a trial concept and hopefully one that takes off if done right. The more places we can go and be surrounded by mobile gadget goodness, the better.

Bejeweled Bundled with New Treo 680s
Posted by: PatrickJ on Nov 28 2006 - 1,005 views
"Bejeweled is perfectly suited to gaming on the move — its one-handed play complements the capabilities of the Treo beautifully."
Following Palm, Inc.’s exciting announcement of the new Palm® Treo™ 680 smartphone, Astraware® is delighted to announce that they have Bejeweled®, the best-selling handheld game ever, bundled with the device.
Astraware is particularly pleased to include the award-winning* Bejeweled with the new Treo 680, as this continues a long relationship established with the Treo 600. Since that device every Treo smartphone has had an Astraware-developed game bundled with it. So far Zap! 2016, Cubis, Bejeweled, and Dynomite! have all received this honor.
It’s nice to see this particular tradition continuing - bundling a top-notch game with a high-profile new Palm Treo device.
I wish we would see more bundling - of full and even trial versions - of great mobile software on a lot of the more powerful new devices. This would help to encourage newer users to discover some of the real potential of their devices!

Review - GoogHelper for Windows Mobile Smartphone
Posted by: Nowire on Nov 28 2006 - 1,751 views
That’s exactly what Googhelper is. It’s a utility to do your searches in the shortest possible manner. I find this tool very handy especially when I’m on the go.
Meet Goog – the little helper for your Smartphone.
Just recently I got a hold of a new phone from T-mobile. Since this is a Smartphone, it only means one thing: I have to rebuild my library of applications. Having been a Pocket PC user for quite some time now, I have accumulated a staggering number of applications, which unfortunately won’t work with my new Smartphone. No complaints here though, this just means that I need to gear up my wallet and put on my meanest shopping face.
One of the first few applications that I came across is Googhelper. A little utility that looks so simple that it actually catches my interest. Since I do a lot of searching when I’m online I figured this would be something that might come in handy.
