Z-Day Was a Little Quiet, Wasn’t It?

So Zune launched yesterday. It’s out in the stores, there are unboxing videos up at various sites, and it’s ready to take the world by storm.

But … it seemed like a little quieter day on the Zune front than I was expecting. There seemed to be less noise, less people excited about it, than during the leadup to its launch.

I might be getting that wrong – served jury duty yesterday for half the day (luckily a very short civil trial) and maybe my impressions are off, but it just feels as if launch day was a bit of an anti-climax.

For those who are still hyped up about it, and after some good first impressions of the Zune, check out Chris Leckness’ posts at Mobility Site:

My Initial Impressions of the Microsoft Zune …

sigh. I really want to this thing to beat the crap out of the iPod… lol.

I need to go back to the store and see the actual working model…It might change my mind.

Yea – go to the store. Try the working model. Come home and hug your iPod and then call Apple and thank them for now building nearly the pile-o-poop that Microsoft just built.

Better yet – call Microsoft and ask them if when they build Zune v2 they can maybe think of something slightly (even remotely) original.

I honestly would love to have been able to see the Zune and admit everything I thought about it was wrong – but that just wasn’t the case. The Zune just isn’t everything everyone thought it was going to be – and launch day fizzled out just about as bad as Microsoft’s implementation of the device did.
