Cingular + Mobile Banking = Scary

Source: CrunchGear

Cingular is planning to launch a service next year which will allow their customers to ‘do their banking via a mobile phone’. The new program they’re planning would enable customers to check their account balance, transfer funds, and pay bills with their phone.

This sounds flat-out scary. And to be fair, it would sound scary regardless of which cellular provider was associated with the new service idea – Cingular, Verizon, whoever.

Banks and financial institutions have a pretty appalling recent record when it comes to providing any sort of safe platform for our personal and financial information, or solid protection against identity theft.

So now we’ll add cellular providers to the mix, and we’ll feel all warm and fuzzy about them making security their absolute top priority with services like this right? Did you stop laughing yet?

I don’t think I’ll be looking to ‘bank with Cingular’ anytime soon …
