Exchange Not The Only Game In Town for Direct Push & ActiveSync

Via: Geekzone

Server-side support for ActiveSync is no longer an exclusive feature of Microsoft Exchange Server. Kerio Technologies Inc., has released a new version of Kerio MailServer that offers Direct Push e-mail for Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs.

Users will be able to wirelessly synchronize their e-mail messages, calendar data, contacts, and tasks in their Kerio MailServer account with a Microsoft Windows Mobile-based device.

Kerio MailServer supports over-the-air synchronization for all versions of Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system developed for Pocket PC and Smartphones including Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and the new Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU2.

This is good news and a bit of healthy competition for Exchange – for those who would like to look at MS Direct Push email but may not have the budget or desire to implement Exchange in-house. I haven’t checked prices recently, but Kerio has traditionally been very keenly priced compared to Exchange and is very well reviewed / well thought of as an Exchange alternative.

Looks like it’s about $399 w/out integrated anti-virus and $499 w/ integrated for 10 users.

Not bad considering Exchange will run you about $1200 w/ 5 cals.
