Cingular 8525 – Unboxing Pics!
Hurrah – today a Cingular 8525 review unit arrived.
Very soon I’ll post some first impressions but for now, click on for some early unboxing pics …
Here’s a (very quickly taken) selection of unboxing pics to get started with:
The very first thing that strikes me on looking at, and holding, the 8525 is that it’s a fair bit slimmer than its older brother the 8125. Like that.
That’s it for now. First impressions soon. Let me know if there is something specific you are curious about or want to know.

Nice! Patrick, can you tell us what the ROM (Radio/OS/Ext. ROM) version is?
PatrickJ

Hi Cruiserman – versions show as:
ROM: 1.34.502.1
Date: 9/21/06
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00

So, Cingular has left out a case here? I’d much rather them left out the cheap wired headset, which I never use rather than a case. This means an extra $30 or so to get a case. Its too bad that Cingular is nickle and dimeing us on a $450 device.

exchguy – yeah, no case in this package. I see your point, though I would have to say that the cases that come with this sort of device are very rarely ‘keepers’ anyway …

Thanks Patrick. Looks like its the same ROM that been out for a while now. I was hoping it was newer. Can you also please tell me the protocol version and OS build version?

Netsyd – don’t let that worry you – this device is like the Dash, photos don’t do it justice …

PatrickJ,
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the 8525. I was about
to buy the 8125 but luckily came ot know about the upcoming
launch of 8525.
I would like to know if you know how does the 8525 sync up
with Lotus Notes (if at all)?
Please let me know…

TechyGuy – cool – glad you re looking at 8525 rather than 8125. Lotus Notes = I think that syncing with Notes is just a question of finding the right sync software (Intellisync maybe or some other 3rd part app) – but it should be do-able on an 8525 as on any other Pocket PC OS device. If you mean email and OTA stuff, you might need to look at Good or something ….

Hi,
I will be getting my 8525 soon!! (can’t wait to get my hands on it…)
I am planning on using my home wireless network to connect to the internet on my 8525.
I am running My home wirelss network on my Linksys wireless router and I am using MAC address filter as a secuurity measure. Only the PCs which are in the MAC address list get access on my wireless network.
So my question is (forgive my ignorance but)… Does my 8525 have a MAC address and if yes how can I retrive it?
If no…then would my 8525 just connect to the internet…please advice…
Thanks in advance for your help and inputs and Happy Holidays!!
Regards,
TechyGuy

Hi
Glad to hear you’re soon to be an 8525 owner! Yes it will have a MAC address for the wireless connection. You can see it by going to the Comm Manager app (by default that’s assigned to the lower hardware button on right-hand side of the device) – turn wireless on – then go to Settings menu, Advanced tab – and it’ll be listed as MAC.

Pat,
I just saw a site that says this PDA phone Cingular 6525 is available at USD 199.99 with free FedEx shipping. The pics & specs seem to be the same but the processor indicated is “Windows Mobile 5.0 with 400 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP Processor” whereas the processor is indicated as SAMSUNG 400 mhz elsewhere in other site specs while quoting the price of USD 400.00. Can you please clarify what could be missing in the former from the specs of the latter?
Thanks
Samudrik
