Moto Q Pro To Beef Up Security & Device Management
Source: buywindowsmobile.com
According to buywindowsmobile.com, Motorola will soon be releasing a Motorola Q Pro – which will have "upgraded hardware" (no details yet) and a black case.
The more interesting side of their piece though is that Motorola will also be bringing out the MOTOPRO Mobility Suite – which is described as: a software package installed on your back end that allows you to do remote device management, application management, and disabling of the camera unit. On the device side of things, it includes a firewall, data encryption for secure emailing, virtual private network connectivity and authentication, and intrusion detection.
Most of those ‘back end’ device management capabilities are already available in Exchange Server 2003 (with SP2), so it will be interesting to see if this is supposed to allow you to achieve the same without Exchange.
The list of on-the-device security enhancements sounds impressive – but I would immediately wonder how much of a performance hit your device will take if you turn any or all of those features on. All of those security features typically come with an amount of ‘overhead’ or latency that is added to the reaction time of a device that’s running them.
Enhanced security and management features should always be of interest to IT departments looking to choose a standard device and roll it out – it will be very interesting to see how well this is done by Motorola.
