Nice Keyboard Utility for the Q

Via: CoolSmartphone.com

QCaps eliminates the need to use the Alt and Shift keys on your Windows Mobile Smartphone or PocketPC’s keyboard. You simply hold down a key to insert a capital letter, and hold it down longer to insert the alternate character. QCaps also performs auto-sentence completion.

Anything that makes text entry faster and easier on mobile devices is always a good thing. QCaps looks like a very handy little utility for Motorola Q users.

It’s features include:

  • Faster Typing of capital letters and alternate characters
  • Easier 1 handed typing
  • Auto Sentence completion with period ".", question mark "?", or "!"
  • Option to "Ignore Keystroke on Device Wake"
  • Easily enable/disable QCaps from any application by double clicking "Q"

Just a quick follow-up on this post:

Works pretty well on my Cingular 8125 as well. Not all the keys work (Arrows/secondary function) but the application does what it says it does. I can see how if you could get used to the way the heys function and how long you need to hold to make a function happen this could imporve your speed. I’ve gotten really good with the 8125 keyboard however so I doubt it would help me out much…

Note to the developers: Find a way to give the current status. I found myself typing caps when I thought I was on small letters etc, small letters when I thought it was on caps, etc etc. (And no the keyboard status reg hack didn’t fix that)

QCaps is ONLY designed to work on the Motorola Q at this time. We have plans to support the Treo 700 line and the Samsung i320. Unfortunately, when you code this low, you can only develop the app for a specific device. Each device is mapped differently.

Brandon – thanks for the clarification on that. Good to hear you’re going to extend the number of devices supported …
