Follow-up (rant) on post – Engadget Says ‘Worthless for Now’

Note to readers: I AM NOT A ZUNE FANBOY. That’s about to get obvious.

Note to Microsoft: Contact me. I’ll be happy to give it a test drive if you think you can change my opinion!

I wonder about the wording here:

"Worthless for now". So first Generation Zunes are going to be extremely crippled in its ability to wirelessly connect to the music store, the internet (no I didn’t expect browsing), and to my PC locally. What makes this any more of a value than the iPod? I would expect if you’re going to install wifi into a device … you give it something to do besides eat up battery life. Not everybody (and I’m predicting nearly nobody) will have a Zune at release … so what good is the wifi going to do when there’s nobody to "talk" to with it?? Wonderful that they think it’s necessary to be able to connect to other Zune’s in my local area, but when I have the only Zune in the area seems like a worthless option. It’s like having a computer with 4 gigs of memory in it just to check my GMail. Useless.

Realistically, Microsoft is pushing this product out the door too fast and without enough value to the buyer. This thing is going to be a big brown dogpile in the backyard out of the box, and it’s all because they are pushing too hard. They have a great idea going, but the market has a 30 second attention span and no tollerance for uselessness. The american buy wants as many options as possible and they don’t want limitations on what those options can do. If I have wifi in a device and wifi in my house, the first thing it needs to be able to do is connect up to whatever service is provided to the device and do whatever it is that device does. — For example: my Tivo. Wifi on the device, wifi in the house, tivo service online … and bang – I’ve got shows scheduled. Give me a music player with wifi … and i dammed well better have music on my device within a few minutes of setup.

Welcome to the mind of the American buyer. Don’t sell me something newer, bigger, better and then give me an ugly iPod. I’m not stupid.

Let me say I’ll be happy to welcome the Zune to the market. Why? Because too many people complain about the iPod, but then say they have one because it’s the best thing out there. I can’t wait until everyone who dislikes the iPod has somewhere else to go. Comptetion only makes the market better. But I would be much happier to welcome the Zune to the market a year from now… when developement is complete and the roadmap has been figured out. Right now this product is underdeveloped, poorly planed and so far it appears its going to poorly implemented at launch.

No tolerance for uselessness = outrageous – we need to start a movement immediately for greater tolerance of uselessness.

I’m starting to save now to buy you a Zune for Xmas …

We already have a movement started for tolerance of uselessness. Obviously you haven’t been watching Congress for the last couple years LOL

Save your cash… save a lot of it. Maybe you can save enough to buy Microsoft out of this? I’d love to have a Zune in hand (as I’ve mentioned before) – I want to see if this thing is a great as Microsoft says it’s going to be or a big flop like I personally believe it’s going to be.

I think we should all pitch in to buy Netsyd his won Zune. Then, we can crank call him on the Wifi (using our own Wifi enabled pocketpc. :) :)

Maybe now we see the real reason they made it brown.
