UMPC vs. iPod / Zune for Video Viewing

Matthew Miller has a very good post up at his The Mobile Gadgeteer blog – nicely titled ‘We don’t need no stinking iPod or Zune’ - which asks some questions, and provides some good thoughts on watching video content on small (or tiny) screens.

I have always tended to think of iPods, Netsyd’s beloved Zune, and even Dell Axims and other mobile device as much more natural for audio. Apart from novelty, ‘that’s cool’ sort of effect, I don’t have much interest at all in watching TV / movies on a PDA or Zune sized screen.

Now a UMPC type screen might well be a different story.

Check out Matthew’s article at the link below and share your thoughts on video viewing on tiny / small / medium screens:

I do have a commute to work everyday 1hr each way. But I use my Ax only for audio. I tried video but the screen is glaring and too much pain to convert video, not worth.

But using it heavily for audio….

I agree with him… video is just not a mobile thing. Alteast not for me. Sure having a dvd in the car on a long trip for the kids is great (they have devices for that) and why would I watch a 2 inch screen at home when I have an hdtv? If I’m on vacation – I have a laptop.

And the Zune ISN’T a Plays-for-sure device??!! The more I learn about the Zune, the more that brown color they chose is starting to look like a prediction and not a color choice.

Yup – definitely see these devices (or anything smaller than a UMPC certainly) as great for audio but not video
