The 2006 Handango Champions Awards winners have been announced.

The awards are divided into categories for Blackberry, Palm OS, S60, UIQ, Windows Mobile Pocket PC, and Windows Mobile Smartphone. Winners were nominated and chose by a panel of industry experts and media – and there are certainly some great and deserving winners.

Overall, in the categories that I know well, I would agree with many of the choices, or certainly wouldn’t fervently argue against them. One Windows Mobile Pocket PC winner strikes me as an odd choice though:  MS Voice Command as ‘Best Application for Work’. I really don’t get a feeling that this is a widely-used work application, and even if it is, I would pick several other apps over it as best in this category.  In fact, I’d feel fine if their Windows Mobile for Smartphone winner in this category was also the winner for Pocket PC – PhatNotes.

Oh, and there’s one big winner who will feature in our Monday GiveAway Contest getting started in just a short while – very cool.
