RoadSync Offers Direct Push Email for Windows Mobile 2003 SE

Via: Experience Mobility

DataViz’s RoadSync product provides some very good news for all those who own a Windows Mobile 2003SE device, but still want to make use of some of those much-touted features of Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2.

For instance, these would be the key features that RoadSync offers:

  • Similar to the Messaging Security & Feature Pack (MSFP) for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, RoadSync is now available for Windows Mobile 2003 SE handsets
  • Secure, wireless and "Direct Push" synchronization of corporate e-mail, attachments, calendar and contacts with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2

  • Global Address List (GAL) Look-up

  • IT Policies including Remote Wipe & Device Passwords

  • Mass Configuration Tool available for faster and more managed deployments

Currently, WM2003SE Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition devices are supported – with WM2003 Smartphone support listed as ‘coming soon’.

This may be especially interesting for corporates with a number of 2003SE devices in the field, and no immediate plans to upgrade to WM5, but wanting to provide direct push mail capabilities to sales / field staff.

Is it just me or does it seem like a bad business model to get into a piece of software that supports an OS that already has both feet out the door and has no chance of being a viable market for the current OS?

I think DataViz develop sync software across a lot of platforms – Symbian, Palm etc – and possibly it did not require a huge amount of effort to build Wm 2003 support. Also they possibly will do well with corporates that have a number of 2003 devices in use and no immediate plans to upgrade ‘em …
