Nokia Phones – Not Just a Number Anymore

Nokia has said this week that they will move towards giving their new phones names, rather than just model numbers – following the success of named brands like the RAZR and LG’s Chocolate.

I guess this is a good move, and a good thing for those of us who try to keep up with all the latest / greatest devices and models out there – it’s hard enough keeping up with model numbers even when they’re attached to devices with a strong brand name (Treo 700w, wx, 750v etc.). Also, the more manufacturers there are out there struggling to come up with sexy new names for their latest offering, the more chuckles we get when they occasionally come out with completely goofy and hopeless names.

Let’s Help Get Them Started on New Names …

So … anyone got any suggestions to get Nokia kick-started on this new naming program?  Got any suggestions for the N93 above?  Or anyone have a shortlist of best / worst names ever for phone and PDA models?

I’ve got two PDA nominees for the Worst category – both from around 100 years ago – the Phillips Nino and the Compaq Aero – I owned one of each, but it took a lot to get past their horrifying names.

Most misleading name for a mobile has to be the old Alcatel “One Touch Easy”, you really needed at least three touches to get it to do anything. Even now, the name Alcatel gives me a cold chill down my spine.

HA – nice one – have a feeling my wife would say the same about several models of ‘one touch’ type digital cameras …
