Gizmodo has a post up with some strong sounding information from analysts reporting that the Apple iPhone is real and probably coming soon. According to one analyst, it has already gone from concept to prototype, and should be ready for manufacturing ‘soon’.

My first thought on reading the post was … please don’t shove any “I’m a Mac Phone, I’m a Windows Phone” TV ads at us!

I originally disliked the Mac vs. PC ads when the first one came out and seemed more than a little smug and cocky in its approach. Now, with each new one in the series, I find them more and more irritating. What they most remind me of is bad political advertising – the TV ads where a candidate spends the entire time running down an opponent, without telling us anything at all about their own stance on issues or how they will do better, pure bashing tactics.

So I suppose whenever we do see an iPhone launched, we can look forward to a series of ads that tell us how iPhones never have weak signal, have batteries that never run down because they’re just way smarter than dopy Windows Mobile batteries, and so on. Maybe we can even have an ancient-looking rotary phone play the Windows Mobile phone next to the much smarter and slicker iPhone – something like the model above?

Macs are great machines, and I’m sure Apple can bring some great design and quality to the cellphone / smartphone area – I just really hope we don’t have to have the smartass ads to go with it.
