UMPCs – Bleeding Edge Blues

Over the last few days we’ve seen news on the Q1P 2nd generation UMPC from Samsung. Today there’s news of a Sony VGN-UX280P, a step-up from (and replacement for?) their 2-month old UX180P.

In both cases, the first generation device has only been around for a very short time, but now appears to be very much put in the shade by the specs of the new release.

David Ciccone has a post up at Mobility Today that makes clear he is not thrilled with this quick-fire new release from Sony.  I would imagine quite a few Samsung Q1 owners are having some similar feelings.

So … I guess this can serve as a little reminder to all of us who get overcome by temptation when the latest / greatest gadgets arrive – that even just a little waiting out of an initial wave can be a smart move.

Mind you, I’m not gloating here. If I had a few grand laying around looking bored when those first devices were brand new and available, I’d more than likely be drafting this on a Q1.
