UMPC – New Q1P Will Boast Far Better Battery Life & HSDPA

Via: InfoWorld.com

"The Q1P, a successor to the Q1, will extend battery life to five hours and connect to cellular networks based on HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), Gee Sung Choi, president and chief executive of Samsung Digital Media Business, said Friday at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin."

This sounds like very good news for UMPC fans, except maybe those who already shelled out for the Q1 or other first generation UMPCs. Five hours battery life is a vast improvement – and HSDPA speeds must also be viewed as a huge plus.

The Q1P is due to be vailable fourth quarter of this year.

For many people, poor battery life has been one of the biggest factors that would rule out serious interest in a UMPC up to now. If the Q1P and other UMPC units soon get that issue resolved, that will be a *big* negative checked off, and the list of reasons not to give these devices a good look may be growing much shorter.
