Pocketnow’s new contest!

Posted by: Steve on Sep 30 2006 - 929 views

"Dell Axim x50/51/v owners: We’ve partnered with Proporta to create the Dell Axim Awesome Accessory Kit that includes six items: a Magnesium case, a Aluminum case, an Alu-Leather case, a retractable USB sync cable, a 3 in 1 stylus, and best of all – a 2GB SD card with built in USB, which costs over $100 alone! That’s a total of more than $250 worth of Dell Axim accessories!

To enter the contest, you’ll need your imagination. If you were a product engineer over at Dell working on a new Windows Mobile device that is to improve upon the great features of the current Axim line, what would it look like? What types of features would it have? Would it include cell phone connectivity? The most creative entry will be chosen as the winner. Photoshop prototypes will add value to your entry.

Post your submission into the discussion thread of this contest. The winner will be chosen Friday, 6 October, at 12:00PM Pacific. Good luck!"

Head over to pocketnow.com and enter this contest to win yourself some awesome Dell Axim toys! It looks like a very fun and rewarding contest. Kudos to Pocketnow.com

Review - Vaja Classic Case for Axim X50 / X51 Series

Posted by: PatrickJ on Sep 30 2006 - 1,473 views

I’ve been an Axim X50V and X51V user for a couple of years now. In my view the Axim is still the top of the heap for straight-up PDAs, and this Vaja case is a perfect companion and protector for this top-class device.

Everything about the Vaja Classic for the X50/X51 series gives a warm, comfortable feeling of high quality design and attention to detail. It’s been a pleasure to use the case for a few weeks now with the Axim X51V.

I’ve tried out several cases for the Axim X50/51V over the last couple years, from the Dell slip-overs to Rhinoskin metal cases and a very nice Sena front-flip leather case.

Read on for an overview of the Vaja Classic and why it’s immediately become my preferred case …

UMPC 2nd Gen Talk from Intel

Posted by: PatrickJ on Sep 29 2006 - 850 views

Source: Engadget

"Scheduled to launch sometime between the end of the year and mid-2007, the new breed of mobile PCs require 1/2 the power at 1/4 the size of the first generation …"

Engadget has a post up on Intel’s reference designs for 2nd generation UMPC devices - including the Yahoo-branded device pictured above. Those numbers in the quote are a pretty major step forward - half the power at one quarter the size!

So now you really feel good about purchasing a Q1 or one of the first generation UMPCs right? Also, Engadget rightly points out that the key question is probably still whether or not there is a real market for devices that are bigger than pocket-sized but smaller than laptops - will be interesting to see that question get answered.

Engadget’s article is at:

Meet the second generation of UMPCs …

Posted by: PatrickJ on Sep 29 2006 - 774 views

Via: CrunchGear.com

If you’re planning to get a Zune as soon as they’re out, then you can get a (sort of a) head start now - as they’re available for pre-order at the Wal-Mart site now for $249.94.

The fine print will tell you that they ’should ship on 11/14′.

Even with all the DRM nonsense, I still feel tempted to have a good look at the Zune …

iPAQ rx5915 Travel Companion Up on HP’s Site

Posted by: PatrickJ on Sep 29 2006 - 1,177 views

Via: Brighthand.com

HP’s site now has the iPAQ rx5915 ‘Travel Companion’ details up, with a listed price of $599.99. It’s listed as ‘coming soon’ for now, no available date yet.

Apparently HP are pitching this - as the naming would suggest - as more of an ‘in-car’ or special purpose device, rather than a straight up PDA. It even lists a windshield mount as part of its in-the-box contents.

Read on for the full spec details …
