Ipod, Zune vs. ‘Music Phones’

While we’re on the subject of Zune and whether it can compete with Ipods and all that sort of thing …

Have seen a few articles recently that talk about music-enabled phones as being the *real* threat to Ipod’s dominance. Or in fact as being a threat to ‘stand-alone’ digital music players generally.  I think this is not that far away from Netsyd’s desire to see true multimedia capabilities built into PPC devices.

A recent InfoWorld piece mentions that Nokia sold more music-enabled phones between April and June than Apple sold Ipods – and they’ve recently made an acquisition that may take them into online music services.  The piece also points out that the obvious threat from music-enabled phones is in part based on the fact that this is usually the one device that we don’t leave home without.

Seems like Ipod vs. Zune vs. music-enabled phones is going to be a very interesting contest.

Check out this recent InfoWorld article for more on music-enabled phones vs. stand-alone players:

Great little article… and it’s nice to see the market speculators don’t have any more clue what’s going to happen than I do =)

I just want to know when my full range implanted headphones are going to come to market.
