Site Changes – Update
So … have updated the WordPress install on the site tonight and – as you may have noticed – have made some major changes on the design theme of the site and added some plugins and functionality.
The design change may not be permanent – as in, may still switch back to previous theme. For now, I do not like the overall look as much as the previous theme, but it is growing on me. And I’m hoping I’ll work with Mr. Nowire a little and get it looking better.
The main reason for the switch is that this new theme offers some nice new functionality. You may notice some little things already implemented – Live Chat, Smart Tooltips for links etc. quick tags within comments and so on.
It is also supposed to be nicely optimized for mobile device viewing. I’ve not had a chance to test that very much yet, but it does seem like there is definite improvement on page loading times on my 8125.
Feedback Please – I would love to hear any comments and opinions on this new layout.
Again, thanks for your patience while we’re making changes.

Looks cleaner, and brighter now it seems. The comment box popup is something different (text code or something is kinda big). So far I like it.

Patrick. I like the new look. The comment box seems to make things run much faster. Very good.

Dgoldring – excellent – glad to hear it. That’s kind of the theory behind the changes – that, initially the appearance is a bit plainer (but hopefully clean and ok to navigate) – but in return we get more features and much better useability on mobile devices …

Is it just me or is the entire site a lot more mobile friendly? Everything seems to load much faster and render much better on my phones screen. Anyone else feel the same way?

Patrick, don’t you think the “categories” should be highest on the left pane?

I like it… for the most part.
I agree the categories should be a bit higher on the left hand pane.
I also really liked the old banner at the top. If you can, that would be the one piece I would bring back.

I agree. The old banner was nice. But I don’t think it goes well with the new style of the site. Redesign time?
Another vote here for the categories to be up higher.

Guys – thanks for the feedback. I’m going to work on this quite a bit more. Categories is moving up on the left – think it will still be after Login and Pages, but nearer the top. Banner = I want something more like the old banner / more attractive – but also want to keep the speed and mobile-friendly nature of it going. So will keep working and please keep the comments coming …

Yeah, this red looks great. I remember reading an article somewhere about how different colors create different moods. Hmmm… I dunno, how does deep red make you feel?

Right now, it’s making me feel good -prefer this. Still lots of work to do, but the aim is to keep the nice new features and add a bit of style back. I think the mobile device rendering is majorly improved. Loads much better – will still look to improve it more …

I really appreciate all your contributions, I like the site changes, and I definitely like the Red over all that Blue.

GreatDay – excellent, very glad to hear it. Still have a number of things to work on and make better with the changes and new look – but we’ll keep working hard on those. Thanks for the kind words …

Patrick, I have to disagree. I really preferred the blue, Also, on the comments, the red background is too dark with the black text. So, you can’t read it very well (not enough contrast). But I do like the new format.

dgoldring – sorry on the blue preference. I quite liked the previous theme’s colors also, but this scheme is growing on me, and overall speed and functionality seems very good. On the comments part being too dark, I will look at tweaking that background color to help ‘readability’ …
