"The phone-computer combo is based on the Linux operating system and Trolltech’s Qtopia GUI. It’s a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE device with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on board too."

I’ve seen various recent articles talking about the growth of Linux in the cellphone market – most recently Motorola announcing greater commitment to Linux-based phones.  What I haven’t seen a lot of is any Linux-based smartphone or real converged PDA / Phone type devices.  Until this one – the HandyPC.

RegHardware has a piece up announcing that Road, a German phone manufacturer, are going to be releasing the HandyPC as "its answer to Nokia’s Communicator". The spec for the HandyPC is said to include a 640X240 display, 400mhz Intel PXA264 CPU, 64MB of RAM and 64MB of Flash, two megapixel camera – and will ship with PC sync and media player software.

Interesting to see a Linux-based device of this type. No release date or price details yet.
