If you want to see really cool and clever ways to incorporate mobile tech into your daily life, and for very practical purposes, this is one article that is a must read. Kevin Tofel at the OnTheRun blog has a great piece up on using the power of OneNoteMobile, his smartphone, and a UMPC to help get a home improvement project going successfully.

I’ve posted before on OneNote Mobile and how cool a tool it is – nice to see it getting some more love and real-world use.

Mobile case studies are always interesting to me. And Kevin’s great post shows that they don’t need to be about a corporate rollout and x-thousand users – they can just be about how to put great new mobile apps and devices to work in your everyday life.

Now if I could only afford having so many mobile devices at the same time and improve the home…

Kevin’s utilization of his UMPC shows exactly how those devices can integrate into one’s lifestyle. There should be a ebook called, “What Can I do with my UMPC?”

You can do the same thing using a picture mailed from your cellphone and opened using PhatPad on a pocketPC.

I think viewing the actual photo and marking it up is much easier on the larger UMPC screen – and certainly talking it over with shop staff is easier on a bigger screen. But I would agree that PhatPad is a great app. The main point I think is that we can apply our mobile devices and apps to tasks like this if we just think creatively about how to use them.

PatrickJ, I agree completely and can offer an example. Using PhatPad I made a drawing of the lower part of my front door and included the length and width measurements. It would have been much simpler if I had just taken a picture of it and then added the dimensions. I’ll certainly be doing that in the future.

Sounds cool. Now what can I do about my large, goofy dog digging holes in my backyard? I can definitely get a pic of him ‘in the act’ but not sure if mobile apps are going to help me past this one …
